A practical reference for specifying a roller screw — what to define, and how each choice affects performance.

Sizing for load and life

Start with the application's force, stroke, speed and required lifetime. Dynamic and static load ratings, combined with the load spectrum over a duty cycle, determine the diameter and lead. A screw sized only for peak force may fall short on fatigue life; we size against the full spectrum.

Precision & accuracy

Lead accuracy describes how closely actual travel matches nominal over the screw length; repeatability describes how consistently a position is reached. Backlash — lost motion on reversal — is minimised through preload where the application demands it. Define the positioning class you need so we specify the right grade.

Lubrication

Correct lubrication is decisive for life. Grease or oil is selected for load, speed, temperature and environment, with re-lubrication intervals set accordingly. Sealed configurations protect against contamination in harsh settings.

Mounting & supports

The screw must be located to carry axial thrust into the structure without introducing misalignment. Support bearing units, end fixities and nut mounting all affect stiffness and life — plan them together with the screw.

Material guide
