What is a planetary roller screw?

A planetary roller screw converts rotary motion into linear motion using threaded rollers arranged around a central screw shaft. The rollers make line contact with both the screw and the nut, spreading load across many contacts for high capacity and long life.

How is a roller screw better than a ball screw?

Roller screws carry higher loads, achieve finer leads, resist shock and offer longer service life at high duty cycles, because load is shared across many rollers rather than a few point-contact balls.
